Restless in Reno

Went for a hike on a new trail this afternoon with John. While driving to meet him in Reno, I thought about this blog and whether it's time to pull the plug. I'm still mulling this. Is this normal? If you have a blog, do you sometimes wonder why you have one?

Getting back to the hike...didn't see another hiker until the end. It was a guy who said he is preparing to hike to the top of Mt. Whitney this weekend. All of a sudden I thought "I should set a goal of hiking to the top of Whitney." Just like that. What?! Why am I so impressionable?

Guess I'm feeling a little adrift these days. End of summer melancholy perhaps.

Don't give up your blog! Sometimes my blog is idle for awhile, but I always come back to it. I hope that you will find this to be the same for you.

What a beautiful photo. There is nothing wrong with someone else's goals spurring you along. The best ideas come from others sometimes.

As for blogging - I do wonder why I have one every now and then. Who really cares what I have to say? Why do I make the effort to create daily posts? But when I feel like that I remind myself that I blog for me - not for the world. The people I meet because of it are wonderful perks. I blog to create - words and images. That I otherwise would not do.

Blog when you want, what you want. And when it isn't fun, don't post.

Oh you're not the only one. My brother and I were just talking about this the other day. Each year, at the end of the hiking season, we get this grand idea to do something like hike the Wonderland Trail (7 days) or climb Rainier, etc. Always at the *end* of the season. And we always promise we'll start training towards it in the spring. And then we forget about it until the next fall when we come up with our next grand hiking/climbing idea. LOL.

That is an inspiring photo. I love little stone creek waterfalls.

I'm often tempted to pull the plug on blogging. The inactivity part is my main motivation for wanting to chunk it. And yes, my blog gets bouts of existential angst. Who am I? What do I want to be?

I dunno. I compromise by posting less and visiting other bloggers less. Can't do it all AND get enough exercise. For the record, I hope you will stick around.

p.s. I see by your sidebar that you're reading Jonathan Franzen's Freedom. How do you like it? I loved The Corrections.

"Existenial angst" -- spot on, I think!

I've felt the same way more than once. Every time I think I will stop blogging I realize how much I enjoy it even if I only am able to do it sporadically and I keep soldiering on! I always enjoy your posts if that gives you any small bit of inspiration to continue you can do it knowing you inspire me!
