Every cover tells a story

I've owned three copies of this book, each with a different cover. My favorite cover is the last one. It's iconic. You can scramble the title and author's name but if you keep the colors and the font it stays easily recognizable to most people.

Least appreciated in this selection are the covers that attempt to depict Holden Caulfield. The beauty of this book is the ability to identify closely with Holden, even if you are a California girl from a younger generation.

Be sure to check out the Weekly Geeks HQ for more book cover fun!

My copy is the last one, too, but I love the fourth (yellow) and the sixth (grey/silver). Love this book!

I love this book. I plan to re-read it and review it on my blog later this year.

Thanks for stopping by!

My copy is the very top one with the red horse. Strange cover. Good book! :)

I rather like the fourth one, that is just the title and author in a handwriting font. As you say, it let's you bring yourself to the book without providing any preconceived ideas.

I think mine was the last one too. The graphic ones have much less of a "text book" feel about them!

I like the ones that keep it simple too. Holden is better left in my imagination. I read the white one in the bottom row in high school and its how I will always picture the book.

I like the yellow cover. Even though I am all for sober ones!

I love seeing them all in one place!
The half red/half white one was the one I remember!

Amazing how attached you can get to a particular cover!

what a great assortment. The one I remember most is the plain red one. Good job.

Mine is finally up now.

Happy Reading

I agree with you about not needing to depict Haulden. I've got te fourth one, and I really don't like the first one.

I love that you picked this book! I'm with you on your least favourite. I'm not a fan of covers that try to put a face to the characters in general.

My favorite is the last one, too, because that's the one we own and love.

I have the second to the last one, and it's tattered as hell :) I like the plain ones best and the two with the faces least :)

The last is my favorite because that is the cover of my owned well-loved and well-read copy. Nice post!

I haven't read this one, but my favourite is the yellow Penguin with the 'handwritten' looking title. :)

I own the first and the last.

I agree that it is usually a mistake to try and depict the character..I prefer to leave that up to the reader to do.

Oh, that last one, for sure. You're so right in saying it's iconic!

I too had the last cover - isn't funny how identifiable books are by their cover? I don't think I spend all that much time looking at the covers but the images stay in my memory much longer than the details within the pages sometimes.

I had to look on my bookshelf because I couldn't picture the cover in my mind ... yes, it's the last one.

I've enjoyed reading this iteration of Weekly Geeks; very interesting to see all the covers.

I have the second to last white with little rainbow stripe, I like it and the yellow with handwritten title best.
