nightswimming

I went night swimming the other evening underneath a huge, glowing harvest moon -- it was heaven. I'm reminded of why "nightswimming" by REM is one of my favorite songs.

Matthew Perpetua at Pop Songs 07-08:

Michael Stipe’s lyrics sets a scene rich with concrete details, but its emotional potency comes from the immense value it places on beautiful, though seemingly inconsequential moments of true love and friendship. It’s also a lovely lament for the final days of summer, and the bittersweet awareness that certain freedoms and enjoyable status quos are about to disappear as the weather slowly segues into the autumn.

Nightswimming, remembering that night.
September's coming soon.
I'm pining for the moon.
And what if there were two
Side by side in orbit
Around the fairest sun?
That bright, tight forever drum
could not describe nightswimming.
